Contemporary Era: A Living Heritage

Contemporary Era: A Living Heritage

Vietnam’s traditional clothing carries a rich legacy that spans over ten thousand years. A deep well of cultural pride, resilience, and beauty woven into every thread. From ancient tribal garments to the graceful Áo Dài, each era of Vietnamese fashion tells a story of its people and the land they live on.

As Vietnam evolved through centuries of Chinese influence and native dynasties, traditional garments became more refined and symbolic.

• Lý - Trần Dynasties: Clothing was elegant and ceremonial. Women wore long skirts (váy đụp) with chest wraps (yếm), while men donned long robes and headpieces.

• Lê - Nguyễn Dynasties: This era brought structure to fashion. The Áo Giao Lĩnh (cross-collared robe) and Áo Tấc (ceremonial robe) were worn by royalty and scholars. The Yếm remained a symbol of feminine beauty, often worn under flowing skirts and layered garments.
